Working out can already be an exhausting and time consuming defeat, it can be confusing and overwhelming for many, novice to even veteran gym go-ers. Though, looking and feeling good has to come with a price? Right. So you’re ready to embark on a new journey into fitness and tackle down on some of your goals or you may be getting back into the gym after a long break- one problem, you have anxiety, don’t know where or how to start.
On this blog I will provide you with tips and tricks for you to BUILD CONFIDENCE IN THE GYM.
1. Which Gym
When you come to the realization that you want to work on yourself, physically and mentally, you need to be in a place that resonates well with you. Your first step is to find a space that is perfect for YOU. You’ll want to search and do a tour of a few gyms in your area or close to work (whichever place you feel you can go consistently).
Pick your interests: classes, weight training, CrossFit, women’s only, co-ed, all of the above etc.
Ensure you keep your interests in mind when doing your initial search. It is all about where you will feel most comfortable, you are paying to better yourself you want to ensure it will be in a space you feel you will be able to thrive in.
2. Have a plan
Organization, Plan, Execution.
Similarly, to when you go to the grocery store or planning a trip, you want to ensure you have a plan to avoid any impulse purchases, missing key component’s, confusion etc. You want to apply that same concept to when going into the gym.
Listen, the gym is a busy place. Having a detailed plan on what to do and how to do it will save you time and eliminate walking around, confusion, discomfort etc. There are numerous online plans you can download to your phone, print out or even write it down on a notebook. If you think you’ll look weird , wrong! Many gym go-ers use a notebook to monitor/track their goals and the reps/weights they are doing. Even having a workout video to follow along with can help.
3. Proper Attire
Just like going to work or going out, you want to dress the part. Looking and feeling your best often go hand-in-hand, you’ll feel better knowing you have an outfit that matches the environment, fits well and allows you to feel confident. You don’t have to splurge on any gym attire or think you need those online fitness clothing shops to feel great.

· Winners/Marshalls

4. Group classes
If your are trying to get into the groove of the gym , try joining a class! A great way to meet new people and learn some exercises/moves. Joining class is another great way to stay on track with your goals, timing is important factor at the gym, if you don’t have a plan when going in trying out a class will you feeling more knowledgeable on what you do and don’t like and also a way for you to speak with the instructor who will likely give you tips so you don’t feel out of place.
5. The Right Music
An important factor!
Gym’s tend to play whatever they want, which is not representative of all those in the gym. You want to make sure while you’re at the you remain focused on your workout, so having a playlist with your favorite songs, or listening to a YouTube channel, or podcast can help you keep focused and in the zone!
Tip: try using wireless headphones that connect to your phone via Bluetooth to eliminate any injuries that could occur. Safety first!
6. Invest in a Trainer
If you are really interested in getting a head start to your fitness goals and want better understanding of what to do, when to do it and how to do it. Invest in yourself and hire a trainer! Online or In-Person, a trainer can provide you with the in-depth knowledge of exercising, providing a guide of what to eat and keep you on track, a personal trainer is your personal fitness COACH– they want you to succeed. With determination, listening and the aid of a personal fitness coach you will be able to reach your goals.
7. Bring a Friend
For some, having a friend is a with them can ease the imitation of the gym. A Partner is a excellent resource to have when just starting out.
8. Have the Right Mindset
Remember- this is all for you!
Everyone in the gym from novice to veteran have to begin somewhere, so you’re never alone. Everyone is working towards something and nobody knows everything.
What you do know is your WHY. Why are you doing this? It’s important to you and something you want to do; you can do it. Go into to the gym or anything with the mindset that you have a goal. You want to feel better overall and you will work towards just that!
Remain Positive! This is an exciting journey a time away just for you, think of it as getting a massage or going for a walk. Having a positive outlook, always helps!
9. Stay Consistent
This is important! Remember to reach any goals you must remain, consistent! Nobody can hold your hand through things, not even your trainer. Staying consistent and focused on your plan is the only way you will reach your goal. Consistency is key!
Tip: set a reminder or alarm on your phone on the days you would like to hit the gym, if you can’t make it to the gym try an at-home workout for even 30mins- can help!
Last but not least.
10. Don’t be so hard on yourself
You can start and stop over and over again but as long as you keep going, you’re working towards something. Be PROUD.
Tips: take pictures, you will be surprised how much progress you have made.
