Better your posture

We have all heard that walking and sitting for long periods of time can have adverse affects on our posture. Sitting in an office / commuting can have you sitting for upwards of 10 hours a day and we tend to spend 7-9 hours sleeping with little exercise, stretching or activity.

With the addition of technology, we have the ability to work around the clock, straining our necks and upper back with the constant need to look down or forward at our screens. With little acknowledgement of how this can cause stress to our bodies increasing pain, discomfort and in some cases leading to injury.

Why having bad posture can harm you:

Poor posture can be related to neck injuries, increase in strains and overall discomfort. It can also have effects to owns self esteem, your mind has plays a huge role in how your influenced and when it comes to posture slumping/slouching can cause some individuals to have an affect on your mood, decreasing your energy and appearance.

Walk tall and look forward!

There are tons of ways to improve posture and it has more benefits than one thinks.

Why is good posture important?

· Better breathing

· Increase in confidence and appearance

· Stronger muscles

· Reduction of tension/reduction of injury

How you can improve your posture:

Aim to get up and walk, do a light stretch every 15-20 minutes. Your back/posterior chain requires you to move your muscles in order to increase blood flow. Bye bye stiffness!

Practice breathing in and out with your shoulders back and head high

Look to increase your pulling exercises:

· Back rows

· lat pull downs

· Ask your manager for sit and stand desk options ( if possible)
